天皇皇后両陛下は11月15日、胆振東部地震で大きな被害を受けた厚真町を訪問し、被災者を見舞われました。

それから、復旧まで、途方もないボランティアと自衛隊、早急な行政支援がすぐさま活動開始。

天皇、皇后両陛下は１９日、熊本地震後、初めて熊本県の被災地を訪れた。

また、茨城県の鬼怒川決壊などの災害で、救出活動にあたった自衛隊員や、復旧に尽力したボランティアについて、「困難に遭遇している人々を助けようという気持ちが、日本人の中に豊かに育っていることを、非常に心強く思います」と述べられた。
一方、陛下は、82歳という自らの年齢を感じることが増え、「行事の時に間違えることもありました」と、率直に明かしたうえで、「1つ1つの行事に、注意深く臨むことによって、少しでもそのようなことのないようにしていくつもりです」と、今後の公務への思いを示された。
