忘れてた（おせーよ、すんまほん）、2015年12月7日 9時20分、金星探査機「あかつき」（PLANET-C）は、金星に近づきながら減速制御を行い、日本の惑星探査史上初めて金星の周回軌道投入に成功！。

2010年5月に種子島宇宙センターから打ち上げられた「あかつき」が、金星の周回軌道への投入にチャレンジしましたが、メインエンジン の故障により、軌道に入ることができなかったという経緯があります。
