2014年、2015年とシーズン2連覇中のフランスのシトロエンのほか、日本の本田技研工業、アメリカのシボレー（GM）、ロシアのラーダに加え、今シーズンはスウェーデンのボルボが参戦。
日米欧の5メーカーによって争われている。んーーそうなのか
世界選手権として12カ国で行なわれるWTCCは、それぞれの国でレース1、レース2の2レースを実施。
これまでに3カ国で6戦が行なわれ、日本ラウンドは9カ国目でシーズンの第17戦、第18戦となる。
