国交省が、地域の魅力を全国に発信する「地方版図柄入りナンバープレート」の「寄付金あり」「寄付金なし」を設定。
「ご当地ナンバー」も導入地域を募集らしい。

国交省、ナンバープレート表示の新基準を公表
2016年4月1日に施行される道路運送車両法と自動車検査独立行政法人法の一部法律改正に合わせて、自動車のナンバープレートの表示に関わる新基準を公表。
ナンバープレート（自動車登録番号標、車両番号標等）をカバー等で被覆することの禁止
今でもナンバープレートは見やすいように表示しなければならないとあるね、
ナンバープレートは、カバー等で被覆すること、シール等を貼り付けること、汚れた状態とすること、回転させて表示すること、折り返すこと等が禁止、一定範囲の上下向き・左右向きの角度によらなければならないこと、フレーム・ボルトカバーを取り付ける場合は一定の大きさ以下のものでなければならないことを定めた。
